Silver Bell Campground Review – Maroon Bells, Aspen

On our recent road trip to Colorado we stayed for two nights in Silver Bell campground in the Maroon Bells area. We were in pitch 4, a walk in pitch, nestled right down by the river. I’m going to assume you’re camping with a tent not with an RV as I didn’t have that perspective from my experiences here. This view is just a stones throw from camp.

This campsite can’t be reserved and you can stay for up to 5 days, you have until 2pm each day to renew your spot. We arrived at 11am on a weekday in early June and there were only a couple spots left.

Each pitch comes with a table, fire with grill & a hanging pole. There are two pit toilets and the camp host sells firewood.

Which are the best pitches?

Undoubtedly the best spots are 2,3,4. Why? Because they’re down by the roaring river, are very private and free of any road noise. I loved these spots because the roar of the river was great to fall asleep to.

The toilets were clean and the fellow campers all very pleasant people. At the time we were there most people were staying 2-3 nights doing all the major hikes/sights in the area and then continuing their trip.

Aspen is named after it’s infamous Aspen trees, the words I can muster really just don’t do it justice so here is a photo.

Crater lake, hanging lake all within an hour of the campground then this couldn’t come more recommended. We managed to catch the sunrise at maroon lake, it entailed a 5:30 get up, 10-minute drive to witness a lovely spectacle! Get this place on your itinerary.
